St. John's Jesuit Christian Service department assists SJJ students in the process of the notion of systemic change-writing letters to Congressional representatives, attending protests as informed participants, providing awareness of social justice issues.The aim of the Christian Service department is to raise, in students, awareness and sensitivity to the plight of others. Our desire is to develop students who are committed to doing justice in all aspects of their lives. The annual Awareness Week serves that need. Christian Service Core Team members select a topic on which the school focuses for a week. Activities and guest speakers are scheduled to explore all sides of an issue, and students decide for themselves if injustice is present. Past topics have included sweatshop labor, hunger, and the School of the Americas

The Arrupe Neighborhood Partnership (Arrupe), a unique service and community-based program, is central to Saint Ignatius High School's focus on developing "Men for Others."  We offer students and their parents an opportunity to become involved, serve others, build friendships, strengthen their faith, and ultimately to make a difference in the lives of neighborhood children and families in need.  Arrupe sponsors a variety of afterschool service programs and events throughout the school year and summer.

Parish “friends of St. Al’s School” sponsor several student scholarships and support this school serving youth from HIV/AIDS-affected families in Nairobi’s Kibera slum who lost one or both parents.

Parishioner ministers help other parishioners in times of difficulty or transition with meals, transportation, caregiver support, communion visits, hospital/nursing home visits, housework, minor home repairs and yardwork.

The BDRT team studies, discusses and discerns ways to overcome racism and racial injustice, while helping the parish become an even more welcoming, inclusive and multi-cultural community of faith.

Integrates ecological awareness and environmental justice into the parish’s faith-life and spirituality by promoting “green” parish practices and care for creation.

Parish volunteers host a monthly sale of fair trade coffee, tea and chocolate products after liturgies to support small farmer cooperatives in 190 countries with just prices and community development projects.

Parish volunteers partner with interfaith congregations to construct quality affordable housing with lower-income new homeowners who contribute 500 “sweat equity” hours while learning homeowner/repair skills.

Integrates faith, action and justice spirituality for the parish, promotes and coordinates parish social justice efforts, outreach ministries, and monthly outreach collections and small grants.

Parish Vincentians make home outreach visits to assist nearby neighbors in need by providing financial assistance for rent, utilities and medications, clothing and furniture vouchers, beds and food cards.

Parishioners financially sponsor children and the aging along with sharing correspondence and support with individuals and families in developing countries around the world.

Parish volunteers tutoring, character coach and assist an after-school program partnership for K-8th grade students at Frederick Douglass School in Cincinnati’s Avondale neighborhood.

Parish volunteers assist with Spiritual Exercises retreats as retreat companions for persons in homelessness seeking change and growth to overcome homelessness.

Parish volunteers provide lunch monthly to assist persons in homelessness with histories of emotional and/or mental challenges participating in Tender Mercies permanent housing and supportive services.

Parish volunteers assist as a support congregation for families in homeless by providing meals, tutoring, children’s and family activities for, and overnight hospitality at nearby Walnut Hills Baptist Church, while families receive housing and job search support from IHN family support staff.

Parish volunteers and others present an introductory 3-day retreat weekend in Christian faith and personal growth for local prison inmates.

Parish volunteers provide academic tutoring and mentoring to support and improve at-risk students’ academic learning and reading/writing skills at Oyler School in Cincinnati’s Lower Price Hill neighborhood.

Parish volunteers provide lunch monthly to assist persons in homelessness with histories of emotional and/or mental challenges participating in Tender Mercies permanent housing and supportive services.

Students are paired with disadvantaged, fatherless boys from area boys/girls clubs and participate in various recreational activities, usually on Saturday afternoons. Carpools are arranged.

Junior Big Brothers is open only to juniors and seniors who have access to a car. Students are paired with boys ages 5-10 and participate in various recreational activities, usually on Saturday afternoons.

The Center's mission is to prepare educators who are qualified and committed to providing an outstanding education for their students. Programs emphasize the integration of technology into teaching. This is accomplished through embracing multiple teaching methodologies including constructivism, cooperative learning, and other strategies. Xavier has a long history of providing professional development for teachers. XCEED will plan, develop, and implement appropriate courses for teaching mathematics and science in preK-12 classrooms. We work collaboratively with local school districts in Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky to meet the needs of teachers and students.

The Center for Service and Social Action believes that, through service, we can deepen our understanding of and be a conduit for positive change within our local, national, and international community.

The Center for Service and Social Action seeks to develop service opportunities which build relationships, enhance learning, encourage active citizenship, and support the John Carroll University mission to "inspire individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world." We offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of our community partners and the interests of our service participants, including Service Learning, Voluntary Service, Service Projects and Events, and service-based Immersion Experiences.
